Nelson Bergsma

Graphic Design
Biography

Hey! My name is Nelson Bergsma, I am 20 years old and am from London, Ontario Canada! I love playing music, working on my design brand and spending time with friends and family! I’ve grown up in southern Ontario and was homeschooled my whole life, then went to college for Graphic Design, and now do full time freelance work! My verse for this year is Romans 8:5 – Those that are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit, think about things that please the Spirit. I want this year to be marked as a year that I think about things that please the spirit. Can’t wait to look back on this year and see all that God has done!

Week 2

Week 2 of working with Pulse just ended and wow. What a team. The need for prayer, the gospel, and community for a ministry to grow is essential, and Pulse sees and acts on that each day. I have been so encouraged by each member and am so excited for the next 15 weeks. I’ve been on zoom for the last 2 weeks working with Mark and Emily on some preaching and teaching messages, while just now launching into some design work for David! 3 days ago I drove to the airport to fly down to Minneapolis. Sadly, I was denied entry after paying to rush my passport renewal, for a mandatory covid test, and tickets for my flight, and being interrogated for about 2 hours. This is a tough pill to swallow, and it is too bad that I can’t be there in person. However, Paul was denied entry into many towns and cities that he tried to preach the gospel to as well. I am going to continue working with Pulse from home and do my best! I’m so thankful to God for the work he has done through Pulse and am so honored that he is willing to use me to make Jesus known.

Week 3 & 4

This internship is a blur, and I’ve been loving every second of it! Even being on zoom, I feel so close to the team. The love of Jesus shines each day. This week I was able to get started on some design work for Preach Twin Cities and get busy with our Preaching + Teaching sessions. For my design work I was able to create some promotional graphics for Preach Twin Cities and help out James Thao with the website. For our Preaching and Teaching sessions, we were tasked to preach a 5 minute message last week, have it critiqued and spoke the edited version again this week! It’s super awesome to learn the in’s and out’s of preaching, and I am loving it! Looking forward to the next few weeks as we lean into Good Friday!

Week 6

So thankful for everything God has done through this internship! Praise praise praise! I had the opportunity to do a gospel message Tuesday morning which was great to prepare for and just be reminded of the cross. Preaching the Gospel oddly enough was harder than I though, it is such a simple message and I feel I end up making it more complicated than it needs to be. So I am looking forward to more practice with that! I’ve been working with Lili Naylor and wrapped up some graphic edits that I’m excited to see in action, and I am preparing to tell my testimony next Tuesday, along with a 10 minute message and a devotional 2 weeks from now. Last night I spent some quiet time with God and found myself thanking him for keeping me in Canada, so much good has happened here with my Keep 5 card prayer list, and I’ve had so many opportunities here to help others and share the gospel. Turned 21 this week as well, which was great to spend some time reflecting on my last year and this upcoming year! God is good.

Week 8

I am constantly reminded of how good God is and how he provides. I love being a part of this team and have been so blessed by Pulse. Wednesdays are my favorite: I hop on a call with the other preaching and teaching interns and have grown so close with them all. We are getting ready to preach a 10 minute message from the Old Testament which I am excited about! Preach Twin Cities is happening soon and I am so excited for it and the work that God is going to do. It is going to be such an amazing night. My life here in Canada is going well, super busy and behind on almost everything it seems, but thankful. David is planning on giving me some graphics work for Good Friday, and I am super excited for that! I can’t even imagine what life is like without interning for pulse anymore!

Week 9

With balancing my Cova brand, the internship, a side business with a friend, and opportunities to serve at my church, this week has been a wild one. Time management is something I have learned over the last year and have learned how to discipline myself when it comes time to work. Im hoping onto revival nights graphics, and they are a super different style than what I’m used to, so I am hoping I can do well! Leah and I were able to come up with a bunch of ideas for the MOVE app and I was able to find some spare time to whip up a mockup of a way we envisioned it being one day and sent it over to them! I’m leading the devotional for the interns this Tuesday, and I can’t wait, it’s going to be about discipleship and is something that is so important to me. God is so good!
